NOTE ON THIS BLOG:
This is an old and no-longer-added-to blog which will "eventually" disappear, once I've made sure everything of importance is moved to my many other current blogs here on Blogger.
Still, there's a lot here, so, feel free to enjoy! :-)

Thirty-three-year-old
Grown-up in a fallen world
On a cross He hung
Every one of us
Children in a childish world
For our sins He died
Third day from His death
Jesus Christ by loving might
Rose to death's demise

ANCIENT ATHENS STILL EXISTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Racing to the FINISH
Of a race he never entered,
The naked fool runs naked down the track.
Dashing toward the end
Of an all-important race,
The naked athletes run clothed in flesh and bone.
The race is over.
An athlete won.
A naked fool runs naked into the rest of his naked life.
Have you ever met
One who sacrificed His life
For His enemy?
You can know Him now.
Though you know Him not at all,
He knows you full well.
If you turn away,
You will give away your heart
To the fire of Hell.
But Christ has the keys
To make friends of enemies
And to bring you Home.
"I DO," BUT I CAN'T BECAUSE NO ONE WILL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If so many people are looking for someone,
Why is someone so hard to find?
If so many people are looking for someone
And I am someone,
Why am I so hard to find?
So many people are looking for someone,
But they know not whom.
I know whom they are looking for.

SUFFOCATING WHISPERS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The squirrels are bounding along.
Birds are chirping a song.
Spotted owls perch and survey the glorious landscape.
Hyenas giggle and guffaw.
Giraffes graze the treetops.
Then mankind comes along.
A serpent circles a tree,
Waiting to strangle man's sensibility.
The snake succeeds.
Womankind has a talk with mankind,
And they become (hu)mankind.
Humankind starts listening to too many loud voices
And misses the landslide majority of suffocating whispers.
Humankind finds loud voices to be appealing,
Thus enstates
"The Freedom To Be an Idiot Act."
As a result,
Humankind enters Cosmic Court
To declare itself a dangerous and unredeemable species,
In order to save
**********The Wooly Mammoth Caterpillar,
**********The rare Loony Moth,
**********And the Revive the Monarchy Butterfly.
Humankind receives a self-induced collective heart attack
And dies,
With the assistance of the merciful
Patron Saint Kevorkian.
*
Free from human tyranny,
The squirrels declare themselves
"King of the Beasts"
And have massive lion hunts,
In which hundreds of squirrels
Dive-bomb a single lion from his shade tree.
Birds are chirping obscenities
And calling it art.
Hyenas laugh their heads off
When hearing the birds;
Nothing else is funny to them anymore.
The giraffes still graze the treetops,
So the other animals call them "old-fashioned"
And make them into social outcasts
Because of their long necks.
A spotted owl surveys the landscape of crumbling buildings.
She is perched on top of
A human skull.
MY WORDS AND THE MIDAS TOUCH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want everything
And I want it now,
Perfection and fame,
A place on the bestseller list,
My own publishing company,
My words in the mind of every citizen of the world.
I want to change the world
With the stroke of a pen
And the layout of a book.
I want everything else profound
To bow in subservience to my words.
But if my wish came true,
My words would turn to gold and shine
With blazing insignificance.
Greatness is not instant.
Success is not express.
Tedium and frustration
Are key ingredients of the heroes of history.
The word "breakthrough" implies
Something is in the way.

I HANDED YOU A STAR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll never forget that night,
No matter who comes into my life.
You gave me a new soul,
And I handed you a star.
No, I'll never forget that feeling
When from your dance my heart was reeling
And my whole existence was moving
Onto a whole new plane of reality.
I'll never forget that night,
No matter who comes into my life.
No matter how hard you try,
You can never escape from my memory.
You gave me a piece of your soul that night,
And no matter how hard you try,
You can never get it back again.
And I will never be again,
No matter how hard I try,
Who I was before I met your heart.
That night, we made a start
Of something we can never end.
So, in this heart you gave me,
You will always be my friend.
The star, someday, will burn away,
But in my heart you'll always stay.
OUR PARENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our parent who art in our belief system,
Tolerated be thy name.
Thy agenda come,
Thy will be done
As long as we agree.
Give us this day everything we want.
Forgive the wealthy for being rich,
*****and give us our fair share of their money.
Let us give into our temptations,
*****but deliver us from getting caught.
For ours is the goodness, the power, and the freedom,
Until we die and enter the heaven of our own invention.

THE SCAR-SPANGLED BANNER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
O say can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hail
While our unborn are screaming,
Whose broad stripes and red scars
(Through the perilous fires
Of our murderous hearts)
On our country are bleeding?
In the past we did care,
But we haven't been there
Since liberty died
Along with our heirs.
So when will we come back to the truth of our name,
The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?
SAVE THE GERMS
(Dedicated to Dr. William C. Amos, periodontist)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Someday,
Killing germs will be
Politically incorrect,
When euphemisms rule the day
And we put germs to sleep, instead.
And some will even object to that.
Listerine will become a banned substance,
With a reputation worse than narcotics;
And periodontists will throw up their hands,
"I'm sorry, Sir/Ma'am,
But it would be against the Hippocratic Oath
For me to disturb the natural life span
Of the bacteria nestling their young in your gums."
Everyone's teeth will fall out,
And denture manufacturers will cease with their trade,
For fear that, in the creation of their product,
They might disrupt ecology's natural balance,
Or, even worse, kill a germ.
The human population will be
Infested with diseases,
And eventually extinct itself
Through its own stupidity.
"Germs,
Come inherit the Earth!"
But the germs won't hear the voice of God.
Germs don't have ears.

DIGITAL SINGLES BAR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everything's clear,
Perception is pixelated.
I see you in high rez.
But don't let me zoom in on you too closely,
Or you'll turn into a block-head.
I've been at the Mac too long;
I see in pixels.
You're 175 lines per inch,
Perfect for an art magazine.
You are beautiful.
I used to see you in dot matrix
And thought you had absolutely no character.
But my Digi-Tech eyes have been upgraded,
And now you print out on my psyche crisply and clearly.
I used to see you in analog.
It had its advantages,
But I saw all the flaws
That now fall between the pixels
When translated into the crisper, clearer
Digital vistas of your soul.
If you think this is a cheap attempt at
Cyberflattery,
You're right!
But don't zoom in on me too closely,
Or I'll turn into a block-head.
THE QUESTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Where is my better half?--
The one who adds life . . .
Enticement to the performance,
Pulling people in
Through the use of
Drama,
Creative infusions of the dream world
Into the real world,
Life to life--
Heart to heart--
Actors to audience--
Actress to actor.
Don't ask me how I know
What is left of the nothing I began with.
I only know that I want whom I've never had.
And I still wait for
The inevitability of possibility,
Swinging its way
Through the jungle of broken dreams.

I'M A FISH IN PROTOPLASMIC THUNDERGEAR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm lost in a sea of ectoplasmic bliss
Waiting for your kiss
Yet enjoying solitude
I'm a fish in protoplasmic thundergear
Hoping you can hear
My heart beat
To meet your will
As I breathe by gill
A watery sigh for you
Dance with words
Upon the stage of ballroom dreams
Block-shaped towers
And pyramid schemes
Red Green Blue
Coalesce to form colours
By the millions
Your face lights up my screen
I long for pixels--
Dots of desire--
Still not free in my solitude
An interlude
Until we meet
At the intersection of Hope and Expectation
In the city of Fear
In the county of Love
In the state of Denial
In the nation of Dreams
Where anything can happen
AND GOD CREATED SEX
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lord,
I don't know how to pray for this.
You know whom I want.
I don't know which one.
As the days change, they rearrange my gaze.
Lord,
I find it so hard to get to know You;
I'm so far away,
But You're so close.
Lord, You say,
"It's better to marry than to burn with passion."
Help me, please!
I'm an inferno!
Lord, I am Yours
And You are mine.
That's what I want
With a bride.
Lord,
Everywhere I turn
I'm confronted by love,
Out of reach of my trembling heart.
Lord,
Which Eve is for me?
"It is not good for the man to be alone," You said.
I hold You to Your word.
Lord,
I don't know how to pray for this.
Words don't work when I feel like this.
Help me, please!
I'm an inferno!
The fire department's not coming,
9-1-1's on a holiday,
And I've lost the fire extinguisher!
My virtue is hanging over a precipice,
And I'm afraid I will fall
Into worldly freedom and even more misery.
She's so far away.
I'm so close to a question.
Unaware, she holds an answer.

SKY SOCCER AND KILLER SQUIRRELS
SKY SOCCER AND KILLER SQUIRRELS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes I wish I could record my dreams.
They often rival Hollywood's special effects.
I just woke up from a dream of Sky Soccer.
I was floating a thousand feet above the ground
Playing soccer with my fellow levitating athletes,
But I could never quite kick the ball
Because I was floating higher than the others.
This atmospheric game was a diversion
As I was on the run from a fiendish adversary.
A monkey who used to be my friend
Had fallen away to the dark side,
And set his sites on me
As his number one enemy.
Yes, I was on the run from a killer monkey,
Who, as the dream went on, became a killer squirrel.
Just as the killer squirrel was closing in on me,
I wished I wasn't a mile down the road from
The luxury condo I found along the way.
I just saw the squirrel attack a giant tortoise
In a puddle near the gas station;
So I knew I had to run again.
So much for that new job at the factory
Where I didn't have a clue what they made!
The squirrel's eyes saw me,
Glowed red,
And moved in for the kill!
Fortunately, I woke up, just in time,
And found myself in the wrong bed in the wrong house,
And it dawned on me,
I've just woken into
Another dream.
Sometimes I wish I could record my dreams.
They often rival Hollywood's special effects.
I just woke up from a dream of Sky Soccer.
I was floating a thousand feet above the ground
Playing soccer with my fellow levitating athletes,
But I could never quite kick the ball
Because I was floating higher than the others.
This atmospheric game was a diversion
As I was on the run from a fiendish adversary.
A monkey who used to be my friend
Had fallen away to the dark side,
And set his sites on me
As his number one enemy.
Yes, I was on the run from a killer monkey,
Who, as the dream went on, became a killer squirrel.
Just as the killer squirrel was closing in on me,
I wished I wasn't a mile down the road from
The luxury condo I found along the way.
I just saw the squirrel attack a giant tortoise
In a puddle near the gas station;
So I knew I had to run again.
So much for that new job at the factory
Where I didn't have a clue what they made!
Glowed red,
And moved in for the kill!
apples fall hitting heads
newtons wake
boundaries break
new ideas face the wind
aerodynamic
streaking through uncharted zones
others sit afraid of wind
they'll wait for calm and then they'll start
uncharted zones are scary too
and in the end the winners lose
for their ideas are just as good
but waiters wait longer than they should
and soon each knows he's lost the race
as the wind blows ridicule in his face
THE EVOLUTION OF LOVE
THE EVOLUTION OF LOVE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're such a beautiful amalgamation
Of space debris.
You were billions of years in the making,
Just like me.
It's hard to believe
You were once a frog,
And once primeval slime.
But all I know
Is I love you so,
More and more all the time.
It's the evolution of love,
From the Big Bang
To these chemical reactions within my brain
That tell me I'll go insane
If you don't love me too.

THESE FEELINGS
THESE FEELINGS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These feelings . . .
Let no one know them.
Open up a graveyard
For all the masks
That are worn
And thrown away.
Tomorrow is the anthem of
A soon forgotten yesterday.
Today is lost in silence.
What does it mean?
And where do we go from here?
Where is here?
Are we even
Anywhere at all?
You speak to me
With eyes full of stars,
And I find a universe
Eluding me.
February Two.
The groundhog saw his shadow.
Six more weeks of winter.
February Two.
The shadow saw his groundhog
And laughed in his face,
**********Ho! Ho! Ho!
**********It feels like spring;
**********The snow is melting,
**********And this poet
**********Sits outside on a bench,
**********Writing with his bare, warm hands
**********Onto snowy-white paper,
********************It's so obnoxious
********************The way that that song
********************Playing on my radio
********************Sings my biography!
********************How did they know?
********************How did they know?
Snow melts into slush
In the palm of a colossal, concrete hand,
And its gargantuan, bulky fingers (curved like talons)
Seem to exclaim the exclamation
To birds flying overhead,
**********Spring dances again!
**********Welcome home, my friends!
AVOID THE VOID
AVOID THE VOID
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Trying to find words.
At a loss.
The alphabet is overflowing,
Filling up the room.
I'm looking for something,
Finding all my dreams come true,
Yet wanting more.
More of what?
The "God-shaped void" in every heart
Cannot be filled by Santa's elves,
Cannot be filled even by ourselves.
Only one can fill the space
Designed for grace.
His name is Jesus,
Son of God.
I'm on a stage,
Filled with the applause
Of the whole, wide world,
But it's not enough.
Let go of my pride
To let inside
The one who died
To set me free
And rose again
To fill the void
That I've been trying so hard to fill
With bitter pills.
Avoid the void
By filling it
With the love of Christ,
The answer to every soul
In search of a goal.

I wrote a poem about you
That the whole world knows.
But only I know who you are.
You're that unidentified star in the heavens
That everyone sees, though no one names.
You're the unfinished portion
Of an unknown Picasso masterpiece
Just waiting to be found.
I wrote a poem about you
That the whole world knows.
But only I know who you are.
I wield the sword of secrecy
And enjoy the power
As even you, my secret, do not know that you are hidden,
Yet out in the open.

Oh, my friend,
You said it would take a miracle
To change your direction.
You said you don't need Jesus Christ
Because you are your perfection.
Oh, your spirit's such a gentle one,
But futile ways
Lead to futile ends.
Your gentleness
Will never make amends
For turning away
The greatest gift ever given,
The gift of Omnipotent Perfection
Becoming futile for you and me
By dying on a tree erected for us,
Those of gutless insurrection.
You're right!
It would take a miracle
To change your direction.
But beware,
Christ is the God of miracles!

THE GALLERIA AT BCE PLACE, TORONTO
The Galleria at BCE Place, Toronto, is often host to magnificent photography exhibits.
The intensity of this photo in a Galleria exhibit completely blew me away! It was shot by Mike Moore of the UK's "Daily Mirror." The subject is Italian soccer coach Pierluigi Collina. His is one face I will never forget, with the Galleria's magnificent skylight towering above him.
Like a Russian doll, this is a photograph of a photographer photographing a photography exhibit. The photographer in red is one of my best friends, Kathie Jo Anderson (kjaPhoto.com).

No question was too difficult--
No answer too distant.
But as time went on,

When confronted with the facts,
You say,

Who are you,
And who am I
To say that anything is true?"
The one who once knew all the answers

QUESTIONS AND THE ANSWER
QUESTIONS AND THE ANSWER
"What now?"
Inquired fear of apathy.
How long
Will free souls dance with tyranny?
When
Will hoping end our hopelessness?
Where
Will the searchers find their place of rest?
Why
Is it that we question everything?
Who is our answer?
Who is our King?
The only answer that we'll ever need
Is Jesus Christ upon the cross of every deed
And every thought in which good has fallen ill.
The only remedy is that Perfection's blood did spill.
"What now?"
Inquired death as Christ rose again.
"How long,"
We ask, "until our Jesus comes again?"
When
Will freedom invade every heart?
Why
Will many turn away from a brand new start?
Who is your answer?
Who is your King?
Where
Will the searchers find their place of rest?
Don't turn the Son of God away.
Don't miss out on God's Best!

IN THE LIQUID AIR
IN THE LIQUID AIR (Funeral For Her Fallen Fellow Fish)
She struggles among questions/cares
And bug-eyed, buzzing (in water) stares
At him who is but isn't there,
Having fallen from his aquatic air.
She hovers close, but at a distance,
Curious, but afraid of his motionless stance.
With the confusion see her dance
As he lies on the pebbles of fate and chance.
With a mind the size of a grain of sand,
See her struggle with the unplanned
And above an empty body stand
On the liquid graveyard land.
Lifeless there he lies below her.
That rambunctious fish will no longer stir
Nor entertain primitive love thoughts of her.
She cries dry tears in the liquid air.

Thanks for your encouragement.
I wonder where the worry went.

With you who've felt the struggles too.
I feel the power of your prayers.
The Powerful One to my heart flew.
Now fear is conquered for a time.
But someday, when it comes again,
Mom will bring encouragement,
And I'll wonder where the worry went.
Now, to the Lord I give praise
For giving me Mom, who all my days
Helped me grow. From God she's sent.
I wonder where the worry went.

BETRAYING THE SAVIOUR WITH A KISS GOOD-NIGHT
BETRAYING THE SAVIOUR WITH A KISS GOOD-NIGHT
I knew I should've gone to church today,
But sleep was more important than an hour with my Saviour.
I knew I should've joined my friends in prayer.
Instead, I spent my day
Travelling in aimless directions
Through a mind full of cobwebs.
All my nightmares came true
In a dream that I had,
And I awoke mourning in the morning of my afternoon.
*
I knew I should've gone to church tonight,
But the darkness swallowed the light,
And I finish a poem
While Jesus is crying.
The wasted day is complete,
And, as I reach for the light switch,
I say to Messiah, "Good-night.
It's time to turn off the light."
And I hear my Saviour respond,
"No. Turn it on."

BODIES OF WATER FLOWING
BODIES OF WATER FLOWING
River rolls.
Ocean laps the shore,
Getting sand on its watery tongue,
Sand which dissolves
In the movement of
Musical Nature.
Seas seethe
In the storms of life
And in their strife
Create a rhythm of chaos.
Movement mounts
At the foot of the mountain
As the water comes crashing
Against its side
By way of a moon-mastered tide.
But grass is green
Around the serene
Lakes controlled
Like islands in the land.
And if they flood,
It's from water from above
Dancing staccato
On their tympanic surface membranes
Rippling in the rain.
We humans
Made of water--sixty-five percent--
Then are certainly meant
To move with the tide of life
And even dance in strife.

It was time to make a wish,
My birthday candles staring me in the face
Burning their fiery imprints into my vision,
Waiting for my answer.
Melting hot wax onto icing,
They waited and waited
As I saw your face in each fire,
Longing for the courage to pursue your love
And never give up until I win your heart.
But I didn't have the guts.
And the flames died
As I blew out hope.
And I still wish without conviction,
Have my dreams of you and me,
Longing for something I'm afraid will never happen,
Wishing it would,
Wishing you understood
And felt the same.
Love is so confusing.
How can something so strong
Make me feel so weak?
I long for you!

GASP
GASP
I just told a lie
Through a gasp of disgust
While I really enjoyed
A depiction of lust
You walked in on me
So I covered my tracks
With the reaction that
You would expect me to have
The stem of sincerity
Is wilting before me
Within the bouquet
Of the way things should be
And I'm wondering why
I'm loving the lie
While I also am praying
"Truth, set me free"

ROUGH AND TUMBLE
When the going gets tough
Will the tough run away?
Will the weak ones stay?
It wouldn't surprise me at all
If the weak ones save the day!
Only the tough times show
Who the tough ones are.
But beware,
The truly tough ones--each will wear a scar.
The tough from the weak;
The weak from the tough.
A label's not enough.

IN RETROSPECT, THE GIFT
Fahrenheit 451--the temperature at which books burn--
That's the book I gave to you.
The book won't burn
Unless you hold it in your hand
While next to you too close I stand,
For at Fahrenheit 451 my love does burn for you.
The book won't burn with my furnace closed.
The flames are burning deep inside.
Until God opens up the door
My flaming secret's safe inside.
When God opens up the door,
The flames will scorch the book you hold.
Flames dashing from the open kiln,
Every page will be no more.
The book is gone.
Just you and I
Standing silent,
Eye to eye.
The book was kindling for the fire,
A means of finding your desire.
Did the fire warm you, like I hoped it would?
Or did it burn you, like I knew it could?
I don't know. What's your desire?
I don't know. God built the fire.
The book is gone.
Just you and I
Standing silent,
Eye to eye.

NOTHING COMES
NOTHING COMES
You wait and wait,
And nothing comes.
As you walk alone,
You see her in the distance,
And you turn in another direction
Because you mean nothing to her.
She is everything to you,
Though you've surrendered to
The nothing in her heart.
If you could make a start
With her,
Would you have everything or nothing
In common?
You wait and wait,
And nothing comes.
At this moment, though,
It means everything.

It makes a good coaster for lemonade.
When you've got time, try it with lime.
Too bad the price is now more than a dime.

Drop it, and spill your lemonade.
Forget the lime. You've got less than a dime.
And who are you kidding? You don't have the time.

And last of all, I'll say what I think.

BECAUSE
BECAUSE
So many people find their own way;
So many people sing at day.
But do they cry at night like I,
Often asking Jesus, "Why?"
He knows well the way I feel
For His human life was real.
So when I'm crying in bachelor life
I turn to Another who had no wife.
And the people He loved turned Him away.
So many people find their own way
Rather than love One who loves them more,
More than I've ever loved before.
Jesus, now I understand
Why that nail went through Your hand.
You were so in love with me,
You'd rather die than let go of me.
So if no other love I find,
Then Yours shall be the only kind.
And if another love comes through,
I'll cherish her as a gift from You.

DID YOU EVER WONDER...?
DID YOU EVER WONDER...?
Did you ever wonder why Jesus was a carpenter?
Did you ever wonder why He never had a wife?
Did you ever feel the love of God who became man?
Did you feel the pain when the nail went through His hand?
On Earth, Christ was a carpenter in holy preparation
For His present work in Heaven of preparing us each a home.
And on Earth, He remained single, for in His future Holy Nation,
We shall be the Bride for whom His Spirit had groaned.
So now I'll sing this little song:
**********My Saviour was a carpenter.
**********He worked with wood,
**********He died on wood
**********And rose just like He said He would.
Did you ever feel the love of God who became man?
Did you ever know that you've been always in His plan?
You loved the sin and called it joy,
But soon you had a broken toy.
The nail of sin through Perfection's hand.
Did you ever know a love so grand?

SYMMETRY OF DREAMS
I dance with the symmetry of dreams
And wake to find my vision marred
By unrealistic demands on the real world
My vigorous pursuit of perfection
Wore a hole in the fabric of time--
A hole always visible, yet fading
As time heals old wounds
And new ones

THE BEAM
I am the sin
Christ's hands were nailed to.
I am the beam
He carried there
Until its evil became too heavy
For the tortured Son of God to bear.
A passer-by was forced to carry
The cursed tree to the Place of the Skull,
Where God's own Son would die for me
To prove all of my striving null.
I am the beam
Christ's hands were nailed to.
I am the nail that skewered His feet.
I am the sword that pierced His side.
I am a disciple who did retreat.
I helped fuel Satan's pride.
I began the shouts to crucify.
God's love and grace
Are all that save me.
Christ's sacrifice
Unseals my doom,
Unlocks the gates of Hell
To free me
To enter Streets of Gold.
Heaven is too rich to earn--
Inheritance the only way.
Accept the gift of eternal life
For which only Christ could pay.

WHAT MAKES YOUR DOG SNIFF?
WHAT MAKES YOUR DOG SNIFF?
What makes your dog sniff?
Did he get a whiff
Of the pumpkin pie
Steaming on the counter?
What makes your dog sniff?
Did he smell the fear
Of the postman coming
On trembling feet toward the box,
The box with mail?
Hear dog bark!
Hear mailman wail!
What makes your dog sniff?
Is it a runny nose?
Did you, as faithful master,
Give your dog a cold?
What makes your dog sniff?
You may never know.
You just know you love him,
And he loves you too,
As he snuggles in your lap,
And laps his tongue across his nose.

PRESSED AND BAKED
PRESSED AND BAKED
(Inspired by my friend Kristine Christensen's* brilliant
statement at the reception for my university graduation.
She said, "I feel like a cookie, pressed and baked." I
said, "Kristine! I love it! I'm going to turn it into a
poem and dedicate it to you!")
"I feel like a cookie,
Pressed and baked."*
I've eaten these years away,
And it all can be seen today.
I feel like a cookie,
All crunched and digested.
I feel like a theory
That hasn't been tested.
I'm lost in a chocolate sea;
Glued to vanilla cream;
Exhausted from ecstasy.
Here I lie
On a tray.
I'm at a reception
For my life.
People are asking
What comes next
As they take me in pieces
From the tray
And munch their curious
Souls away.
But the taste
Makes them happy,
And the chocolate
Makes them hyper.
They munch away
At my possible futures
While I figure out how to
Pay the piper.
But I will make it.
I have the power.
I am cookie;
Hear me roar.

THE WRECKING BALL OF HYPE
THE WRECKING BALL OF HYPE
One of my major pet peeves is the fact that the whole world celebrated the Millennium at the start of 2000, when it did not actually begin until the start of 2001. The reason 2001 began the Millennium is that the B.C. years to A.D. years transition went like this: "4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4...." There was no 0 B.C. or 0 A.D. With no zero in the system, the years went from 1 B.C. directly to 1 A.D. So, basically, math is not our society's strong suit, when it is believed that 1 + 2000 = 2000. It doesn't; it equals 2001, but the global ignorance was unsurpassed as we watched magnificent celebrations for 24 hours, as we crossed time zones, via television, from the comfort of our living rooms. But we were watching the cataclysmic fall of reason to the wrecking ball of hype, as we rang in a one thousand nine hundred ninety-nine year Millennium, wearing a necklace of genuine faux pearls that we also fell for. The number 2000 ends in three goose eggs, representing pop culture's collective IQ.
Even my own intellectual preening is moot. Jesus was actually born in 6 or 5 B.C. (Before Christ). Yes, Christ was actually born "Before Christ." When setting up our current calendar system based on the year of our Lord, supposed human intelligence fell prey once again to reality. After all that calculating, we were obviously off by a few years.
And now, in the Era of Tolerance, naming the years after Jesus cannot be tolerated. No longer "Before Christ" or "anno Domini," we now live in C.E. (the "Common Era"), and the years before "the religious figure preferably erased from history" are now titled B.C.E. ("Before the Common Era"). The world makes it circuit in a cosmic wasteland, where we worship numbers and forget the "One" who made us, preferring compassionate math that calls no answer wrong.

WORRY IS THE MONSTER
WORRY IS THE MONSTER
(Dedicated To The Rev. Bob Smart)
Don't make decisions in the depths of despair,
Or when you're half asleep.
Your choices may take on a dismal air
And ruin your happy and waking hours.
Downcast, you say, "I remember then."
I respond, "Don't worry,
And the time will come again."
*
Worry is the Monster
Guarding the City of Despair--
He welcomes you in
And tries to keep you there.
He serves a feast to the god of mistrust.
You eat until you're stuffed.
You ate it up,
And now, from inside,
It eats you up.
Welcome to
The lure of lies.
The Monster of Despair
Hugs you tight and cries with you,
While he keeps you imprisoned.
Get out of the city!
Run away and don't look back,
For if you look back,
You will go back--
That's the nature of a gaze.
Retreat is more honourable
Than surrender.
Just run,
Don't think,
Because you cannot think
When you're in the Liar's Lair.
He's the Monster of the City of Despair,
But you know him by another name;
Yes, he's Satan, the King of Lies,
The Angel of Pseudolight, playing another game.
The Real Light comes in,
And you see beside you
A face of true beauty.
He says, "I've been with you
All along, working to get through
The wall of worry you've built between us."
You respond, "That I've built?
The Monster of Despair
Built this city and its walls!"
Jesus says, "No,
This is a city of your own invention,
And Satan was only too glad to help.
Now, come again with me,
And walk life's roads
Without malice toward the truth
That you are mine.
You cannot escape my love.
I bought you back from the Monster
You had sold yourself to.
Here,
Feel my scars."
Committed to your safety
And His love for you,
He wounds the Monster of Despair,
Not with a sword,
But by showing him the nail-scarred hands.
Then, Jesus,
Committed to your safety
And His love for you,
Grasps your hand
And leads you from
The City of Your Own Invention.
As He holds your hand,
You feel a scar
That saved you from yourself.

Downcast, you say, "I remember then."
I respond, "Don't worry,
And the time will come again."
*
Worry is the Monster
Guarding the City of Despair--
He welcomes you in
And tries to keep you there.
He serves a feast to the god of mistrust.
You eat until you're stuffed.
You ate it up,
And now, from inside,
It eats you up.
Welcome to
The lure of lies.
The Monster of Despair
Hugs you tight and cries with you,
While he keeps you imprisoned.
Get out of the city!
Run away and don't look back,
For if you look back,
You will go back--
That's the nature of a gaze.
Retreat is more honourable
Than surrender.
Just run,
Don't think,
Because you cannot think
When you're in the Liar's Lair.
He's the Monster of the City of Despair,
But you know him by another name;
Yes, he's Satan, the King of Lies,
The Angel of Pseudolight, playing another game.
The Real Light comes in,
And you see beside you
A face of true beauty.
He says, "I've been with you
All along, working to get through
The wall of worry you've built between us."
You respond, "That I've built?
The Monster of Despair
Built this city and its walls!"
Jesus says, "No,
This is a city of your own invention,
And Satan was only too glad to help.
Now, come again with me,
And walk life's roads
Without malice toward the truth
That you are mine.
You cannot escape my love.
I bought you back from the Monster
You had sold yourself to.
Here,
Feel my scars."
Committed to your safety
And His love for you,
He wounds the Monster of Despair,
Not with a sword,
But by showing him the nail-scarred hands.
Then, Jesus,
Committed to your safety
And His love for you,
Grasps your hand
And leads you from
The City of Your Own Invention.
As He holds your hand,
You feel a scar
That saved you from yourself.
